And prior press reports had mentioned Zinedine Zidane’s desire to succeed his rival and fellow Frenchman Didier Deschamps as head coach of the French national team after the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup, which is currently taking place.
Deschamps’ current contract with France expires on December 31, and his contract has not been renewed yet.
