The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) asserted that President Lasso is now supporting the persecution of Peruvians against the Dina Boluarte administration.
CONAIE said on Twitter that repression in Peru has resulted in around 60 fatalities, 12,000 injuries, and over 2,500 arrests.
According to reports in international media, Peru’s National Police asked Ecuador to return a shipment of tear gas canisters it had loaned the Ecuadorian police in 2019 to counter demonstrations against then-President Lenin Moreno.
The recovered ammo includes, among other things, 4,400 37-mm tear grenades, 5,500 12-mm rounds, and 1,000 hand grenades, according to Peruvian digital site La República.
